Day Date at Chatham Bars Inn

Good morning, friends!

Mal and I had quite the special day yesterday. The nice folks from the Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) invited me for a complementary spa treatment and lunch at one of their on-site restaurants, so we turned the opportunity into a day date. As new parents, it’s not always easy to get away and spend time alone together, so we were really looking forward to our visit.

The first part of our day date included a trip to The Spa at Chatham Bars Inn and, boy, was it glorious!

The spa offers all sorts of luxury treatments and amenities, including over-sized treatment rooms with private showers, a Vichy Shower, and a hydrotherapy tub. It was fancy-schmancy for sure.

My handsome date!

The locker room at the spa was gorgeous and offered its own set of amenities…

Refreshing towels.

A private, combo steam room shower. I used it after my massage and absolutely loved it. You just hit a button and the room fills with steam during (or before or after) your shower. I also spritz a peppermint spray inside the shower to make the experience even more enjoyable. Oh my gosh, it was the best shower ever.

A relaxation room where you could chill before and after your treatment.

More amenities: Delicious-smelling shower products, cucumber water, a selection of gourmet teas, and snacks, including nuts, dried cranberries, and fresh fruit.

Ok, onto our spa treatments!

Since I ran the marathon on Monday, I selected a Deep Tissue Massage. My massage therapist was a runner too, so we had plenty to talk about and she focused on all of the important runner muscles. I actually ended up falling asleep about halfway through my treatment, so you could say it was quite the relaxing massage! I do remember, however, the therapist waking me up by placing a warm robe on top of me. How’s that for service? I loved it so much.

Mal went with the Tides Massage for his treatment, and he could not stop raving about it. A little recap from Mal: “There was a thin, warm, water pillow, almost like a waterbed, that covered the whole table. During the treatment, the therapist used warm stones and sea shells and long, flowing massage. Even the music was great with a nautical theme, but not like a wave machine; it had music mixed in. The massage therapist was really, really good at her job. When she finished, I wanted to hand her my credit card and ask her to do it all over again.” Needless to say, Mal really enjoyed his treatment!

After spending some time at the spa, Mal and I headed up to the Main Inn where we enjoyed lunch at The Sacred Cod.

The Sacred Cod is a casual tavern and a piece of Chatham history with its vaulted ceiling and antique wood-paneled walls. It definitely has a New England/Cape Cod-y feel to it.

We kicked off lunch with a couple of drinks. I went with a CranApple Mojito, a seasonal cocktail, made with cranberry vodka, mint, lime, cranapple simple syrup, soda water, and a splash of apple cider. Um, yea. It was phenomenal. And look how pretty it was!

After that, we enjoyed some homemade brioche with truffle butter, which was also incredible.

Then, we ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell to share. They were fresh, flavorful, and totally reminded me of summer. Hey, is it June yet?

For our main course, Mal and I shared two entrees: The Lobster Roll and Short Rib Sliders.

I love lobster, but I don’t typically order lobster rolls because, a lot of the time, they are loaded with mayo and, honestly, that just grosses me out. Mal really wanted to try the lobster roll, so we ordered it, and I am so glad that we did. It actually might be the best lobster roll I’ve ever eaten. There was a ton of lobster meat inside and not a lot of mayo. If anything, it was a light mayo dressing, and it tasted so, so, so fresh. And the butter-toasted bun totally made it. Holy yum.

The Short Rib Sliders were also pretty amazing. They were made with cheddar and bacon onion jam on a sesame roll. Once again, they had plenty of flavor, but the meat wasn’t loaded with sauce. It almost seemed like a healthy version of your usual restaurant short rib sliders.

And the best part about the meal, not surprisingly, was dessert. Check out what the nice folks at CBI made for me!

Amazing, right? I can’t tell you how excited I was when our server brought it out to me. I almost didn’t want to eat it! But, of course, we did. It was carrot cake with the most delicious cream cheese frosting ever. What a wonderful surprise. I’m still feeling warm and fuzzy about it. Haha!

After lunch, we explored the Main Inn a little more, including a cozy bar inside of The Sacred Cod.

And a huge lounge with a roaring fire that overlooked a veranda and the Atlantic Ocean. So pretty.

All in all, it was an wonderful day with my hubby. I can’t wait to visit CBI again in the future. It’s especially amazing in the summertime!
