5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Eva Chen

Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.

Eva Chen is one of those women I look at and wonder how does she do it?

She is the editor-in-chief of Lucky magazine and chief creative operator of LuckyShops. By her own account, she had a baby, launched a website and moved into a new apartment all in the span of, like, two weeks.

All while Instagramming her #EvaChenPose.

Can you even?

One thing is for sure, her sense of style is to be admired. There are five things in particular that we can take from this amazing multitasker. I mean, what would you expect from the woman who caught Anna Wintour’s eye?

1. Sneakers Are Chic

I know that someone you are reading this right now like, no, duh. But to me, sneakers have always been designated active wear. I am absolutely not a sneaker head. It also may have something to do with the fact that I rather be presentable than comfortable—if I had to choose. Thank you, Eva, for showing that sneakers are chic.

2. Be Versatile

Here is where I struggle: having different looks for different occasions. I would to be able to float between scenarios and my outfit not look like I don’t belong. I’m working on trying out different looks this year and Eva reminds me every time I see her.

3. Trend So Hard

There is this weird dynamic that happens in fashion where you want to appear to be current but not too trendy. It’s a fine line. Then Eva comes along like, ‘forget the rules!’ I’ll trend so hard in my Muppet coat and embellished jeans if I want to. And she looks great.

4. Wear What You Love

Maybe because I’m almost 30, but those articles that dictate what your style should be based on your age are annoying. Sometimes, I like what’s deemed appropriate for my 20s but sometimes I see pieces in the more mature sections that I think I could adapt for my age, similarly to the way Eva dresses. She wears what she loves and isn’t at all shy about it. Even if that means wearing something until it literally falls apart.

5. Figure Out Your Thing

Okay, so maybe you don’t want to Instagram your shoes the same way every day, but maybe you are the girl with the crazy glasses or the fun nails or a million leather skirts. Jenna Lyons didn’t realize that her glasses were her thing. You probably already have one—hashtag or not—and just don’t realize it.

What do you think of Eva Chen’s style? What’s stands out the most to you?
