Tuesday Talks | 2

Tuesday Talks is a GoodReads group where a bunch of book nerds discuss bookish topics each week.

This week’s Tuesday Talk is: Should an author provide a book for review.

When this question popped up, my first answer was no. There should be no expectation of an author providing you with a book so you can read and review, but the fact was brought up what if the author asked you to review, but also expected you to purchase the book. This is another issue entirely.

As bloggers and vloggers, I’d like to think of books almost as payment for services rendered, so to me, an author asking for a review, and expecting you to purchase said book, would be asking one to work for free. That just doesn’t seem polite (or fair). But maybe that’s just my southern upbringing showing.

What about you? Do you think an author should be able to ask one to purchase a book and give a review?
