Paint Shop in Mumbai ☆ Empire Paint Center

I have been asked about the paint shop I used and the chalkboard paint I used on our chalkboard wall in the foyer, so here is the information on the paint shop in Mumbai.

When I first moved to Mumbai, I was overwhelmed by the challenges to navigate this mega city because I didn’t have a car, I didn’t know my ways around and since many places are small shops, I just didn’t know where to begin searching for the shops. I didn’t have a helper for over a month, so I had to take my one-year-old son at the time everywhere I went. Because of that I had to know where I was going if I wanted to go out. Still I was itching to start decorating my home (there was not many things I could do with my toddler at the time as he was still napping twice a day) so I decided to go get some paint. I rented a car and asked my new friends for information. One of my friends told me about Empire Paint Center. I highly recommend this shop. I don’t know other shops and it took a lot of energy to find a paint shop for me at the time, so I didn’t look further.

I can tell you that the owner and his son at Empire Paint Center are honest and easy to talk to as they speak English very well. The Empire Paint Center looks small, but they can make any paint colors. I hired a painter through Empire Paint Center as well. By the way, I was shocked to learn how expensive it was to hire a painter. The charges depends on the size of the wall, but just to give you an example, roughly for two small walls without moving any furniture and easy paint job done in half day, I paid US$50 and tip. My friend who had their whole living and dining room area and a couple of small rooms done had to pay somewhere around US$300. I don’t know the rate in the U.S., so I don’t have a point of reference for comparison, but I find this painting rate in Mumbai, India expensive especially knowing how cheap labor is here. However, the labor for skilled painters seems to be limited and thus it costs very high to hire them. If you ask the son (Hamzaali S. Rangwala) of Empire Paint Center owner about painters, he will be able to help you find someone who can come to your home.

Below is the blackboard paint.

It was a bit tricky to find the Empire Paint Center. If you google “Empire paint shop in Mumbai”, you can find its map. When the driver I had could not find Empire Paint Center, I called the Empire Paint Center and had my driver speak with someone there which helped a lot.
