FOOD | Orange autumn soups

(1, 2, 3)
I woke up today and it was frosty outside. Frosty! That means digging out my winter coat, some winter socks and making lots of tea and... soup. Not gonna lie - summer soups are pants! But once it gets below zero, soup quickly becomes your best friend in cold weather survival. Here are my favourite soup picks (how glamorous does that sound!) for this autumn.

PUMPKIN SOUP
The classic among autumn soups. And the spicier it is, the better! All you need for this soup is a pumpkin (tip of a domestic goddess: use the actual pumpkin as a soup bowl, your guests will be super impressed!), some onion, garlic, salt, pepper, red chilies and either milk or cream (single or double depending on how creamy you like the soup).

BEAN SOUP
This bean soup is more of a stew than just a soup. A kind of a one pot wonder, if you like. You will need tinned beans (butter beans and red kidney beans are the best), some tomatoes (can be tinned chopped ones), onion, garlic, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. You can also add sausages (spicy ones are lovely in this soup).

SWEET POTATO SOUP
I love grilled sweet potatoes, and they taste even better in a soup. Okay, I'm cheating here a little, because it's not just a sweet potato soup - it's a sweet potato AND leek soup. But it's equally as delicious. Add some garlic, onion and lemon zest to make it extra yummy. And if you like the clashing sweetness with spice then add some cayenne pepper. Yum!

BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP
My most favourite autumn soup though is butternut squash soup. Justin made it last week with our new soup maker from Tower. Did you know that soup makers actually make the soup? Blend it and cook it? Erm, yeah, obviously Tereza, that's why they're called soup makers, you turd. Anyways - for this soup you need one butternut squash, some chopped tomatoes, red chilies, paprika, salt and pepper and double cream (makes it nice and thick). You can also add some herbs such as parsley or coriander if you like.

All these soups are spot on autumnal and taste absolutely delicious! (by the way they are rather budget friendly, too, which is never a bad thing right)

What's your favourite cold weather soup?
