Thinking Steps While Reading

I was noticing some of my third graders struggling when they were reading. I was constantly reminding them to pause occasionally and ask themselves if what they were reading was making sense to them and if they understood. If they didn't, I wanted them to take action! So I created this chart that hung in my classroom for a while to help them figure out their thinking steps while reading.

Sometimes students need a little direction when they are reading. They get stuck and aren't sure exactly what to do next.

After a while this chart came down and I just provided them with this sheet below to place in their notebooks as a reminder.
