Driving Around in That Fierce Ford Escape

Mama needs a new car. Like badly. My little ole’ putt putt is almost 10 years old and while I love her, it’s about time to start thinking about getting something new. Besides, my car was perfect when I was a single gal driving up and down Florida’s highways and byways. It’s about time to upgrade to something for our growing family.

I was so excited when Ford gave me the opportunity to test drive their Escape for a week. First of all, I am incredibly spoiled now. You just don’t know livin’ until you have a car with a panoramic sunroof. Esposo could care less about a sunroof, but I found it to be the best feature in the car.

I’ve only ever driven full size sedans since I got my first car at 17, but I am starting to entertain the idea of crossovers and the Escape is perfect. It is small enough that I don’t feel like I am maneuvering a HUGE truck but it is large enough to fit adults, car seats and cargo comfortably. And the gas mileage? Well, it was perfect and did didn’t take up any more gas than my sedan does. Because as I want more space, I REALLY don’t want to spend a ton of money every time I need to fill up.

The safety features were some kind of nice as I found the sensor-based BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert to be incredibly useful. The BLIS displays an alert in the side mirror when a vehicle is detected entering a blind spot. ALL cars need this little feature and as someone who drives a car and isn’t used to a larger vehicle, I loved this added feature.

My car didn’t have it, but select Ford Escapes have a hands-free liftgate where if you gently kick the center of the rear bumper, the trunk will open. How cool is that? It sounds like a pointless feature until you’ve got a handful of wriggly toddler in one hand and 3 bags of groceries in the other hand.

To really get an idea of how great a car is, I always like to take them on mini road trips. Elle and I hit the road to Tampa Bay, about an hour away, and we had a blast in the Escape. The ride was smooth and I loved how comfortable my legs were. We stayed jammin’ thanks to those blaring Sony speakers.

And ohmigoodness, I will never stop loving the Start/Stop Engine button. Another feature that is perfect for moms, being able to keep your keys in your purse/diaper bag while the door unlocks and drives is just…such a treat!

We all just about teared up when they came to pick up the car but I don’t think this will be last of the great Escape (haha, see what I did there?). We just may see a baby like this in our near future.
