Altered

HAPPY Tuesday my dears!! How’s life treating you? I am getting over a sinus cold that had me in the house most of the weekend and am behind on my grad school work (what’s new there?, lol), but otherwise life is rather lovely for me this week so far .

As much as I’d love to live in a world where every garment fit every body just as they’d like, that’s just not the case. Over a year ago, I won an eShatki dress over on Gorgeous In Grey by the lovely Ty, and picked out a green peplum dress. However, when it arrived, it did not fit the way I hoped, as I mentioned in this post. On top of that, the cleaners melted the zipper at the top of the dress, which meant major alterations were needed. After almost a year, I had my best friend’s aunt cut the top of the dress off and replace the zipper, but the skirt still had a bit of an asymmetrical fit. I wanted it to be more of a pencil skirt, so Saturday night, while home sick, I decided to be my own seamstress, which is so HARD, lol. My alterations didn’t come out perfectly (I only know how to sew clutch covers, lol), but I am pleased with the final result! .

Vest: Levi’s- vintage from Goodwill (similar); Brooch: Monet (similar); Shirt: Joe Fresh (similar); Belt: Unknown- Marshall’s; Skirt: eShakti; Clutch: ASOS (same clutch, different color); Red and White Polka Dot Clutch Cover: Clutched & Covered; Shoes: Valentino- thrifted from Buffalo Exchange (similar)

Nail Polish: Julep Maven Matte Suede- Hailee

Like my peplum dress turned skirt, my life has gone through major alterations, especially in the last 4 months, and while making alterations aren’t easy, I am finding them to be very necessary. Whether it be things, relationships, careers, negative energy, etc, let’s not be afraid to alter our lives that we may constantly find the perfect fit for our lives in that moment. As we continue to live and grow, alterations will be needed. Sometimes, we have clip away pieces of fabric from our lives so that we can live a life tailor made for us.

Do you believe in getting your clothes altered? or Do you think clothes should fit you right off the rack?
