Baby Beauty Products I Love 2015: L’Occitane, Bioderma, Childs Farm, Mustela, This Works and Boiron

Ooh heck. Sometimes I look at my two little ragamuffins and think – how did I have two babies?! They came from nowhere! (Well not literally but…time passes quickly when you have kids, that’s all I am saying).

Needless to say, no child of mine is going to use cheap and nasty products on their lovely skin! A perk of having a beauty blogging mother? I have used tons of different products over the last 2 or so years on them and although it’s natural to buy a ton of crap you don’t need to begin with and having everything so nicely organised and planned out – guess what – kids don’t care about your expectations.

So, 2.5 years on here are some products I really like and still use, and would use on both kids.

Both of my boys have eczema which is under control. I moisturise them regularly and don’t use anything that could make their skin flare up. They have both got prescription type products too (such as Epiderm) which really works a treat on super dry skin and is of course free in the UK for kids.

Anyway my baby picks…

1. L’Occitane Mom & Baby Cream (about £10)

This has a nice texture and sinks in fast, makes a smelly baby smell gorgeous. Doesn’t seem to irritate the baby’s skin but I wouldn’t use it if there was an eczema flare up going on due to the fragrance.

This range is so lovely so L’Occitane only DISCONTINUE IT. You can still get this on eBay though, just check the Best Before date. Their body wash is also divine and very much discontinued.

This is one of my favourite face creams (although I have a few, such as Weleda White Mallow is also worth a try if you prefer NO FRAGRANCE). In fact if you can’t locate the L’Occitane at all I think the Weleda is a good replacement.

2. Bioderma ABC Peri-Oral Irritations around the mouth cream (around £8) sold online here.

The French pharmacies when I visited Paris were a revelation to me – SO MANY amazing products for children. I picked this up on my visit with the then still-in-my-belly baby in mind and I have used this a good few times during teething and it works a treat for redness and rashes around the mouth. Little H dribbles when he is teething and Big H has decided it’s great to play with saliva. I smear this thin blue weirdly slimy textured lotion around the mouth and it serves as a treatment and barrier cream.

Now, neither of my potatoes had dummies and they don’t dribble much at all (Big H had about 2 bibs and I never had to use them not even for feeding). If your baby has a big problem with mouth rashes which can be uncomfortable consider reducing dummy time.

3. Child’s Farm Bubble Bath (£3.99) buy here.

I like everything from Child’s Farm – it smells good, is reasonably priced, and is fine for kids with eczema. Having said that I don’t used this on Baby H just yet, I keep it for Big H and it works great creating lots of bubbles without being drying. I also like their kids shampoo and hair and body wash. The only product from Child’s Farm I don’t use regularly is their body lotion as it’s too light for my kids and their dry skin (they should bring out a thicker cream!).

4. Mustela Foam Shampoo for Newborns (£4.99 from Escentual)

Now here is a product I use on Baby H but not on Big H…both of my kids have a lot of hair I can only refer to as a ‘mane’, they’re not baldy babies at all . I currently use plain water with Baby H as to not irritate his skin but his hair needs a good wash since everyone seems to kiss him there! This Mustela Foam is very very very light textured with the slightest fragrance. You spray it on and leave for a few moments then rinse off. It’s not a burden to get off at all which is important as babies can get annoyed with the hair wash part!

5. This Works Baby Sleep Pillow Spray (£16 from This Works)

Who doesn’t want a child that sleeps well?! Neither of mine are brilliant sleepers, I have accepted his as part of their growing process and it is just a phase but anything that helps is fine by me. This expensive but lovely product from This Works is a lavender pillow spray which has been specifically designed for children – I certainly would not ever use a pillow spray that wasn’t made for kids because this aromatherapy stuff can be potent sometimes.

This spray still smells quite strong (if you have the regular pillow spray, it is lighter than that but still quite ‘deep’) and it fades as it settles in to the pillow. It’s very nice, not like fake lavender at all and the kids do seem to settle quicker and sleep a bit longer when I use this spray.

6. Boiron Camilia Teething Relief (I paid £9.55 for 30)

Teething is always a pain – H1 had a few bad nights but overall sailed through it (colic was worse for him). H2 has had a few bad days and nights already due to teething but he has less colic compared to his brother.

Anyway – I have everything for teething, good old Calpol, teething gel, Weleda granules, Teething powder etc. If I can avoid Calpol at first, I will try and find a natural solution and give pain killers as a last option.

These Boiron liquid drops are pretty good – I didn’t have them when H1 was born, but I’ve been using them with H2 and they seem to calm him down a little and reduce his restlessness (but if it’s bad we do still need the teething gel and Calpol!). Compared to Ashton & Pearson’s teething powder, the result is similar but this is far less mess and is easy to carry around and administer. This is squirted on to the tongue.

*Always read the instructions of any product, because many products are only suitable from 3 months upwards. To be honest younger babies only need water and cotton wool anyway!

So that’s my current go to set of products for this kids! I have sort of ‘found’ the products I like the most but there’s always room for new things like massage oils etc.
