Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Scar Serum, Massage Lotion, Bust Cream

Post pregnancy, I have been trying to be kinder to my skin and moisturise at least occasionally, to deal with any marks or scars I have acquired carrying a second baby. I never got stretch marks with Big H, so to get them with Little H was (quote my 13 year old cousin) ’saddening’, although they are not that bad, it’s still a shock because I had a rather nice smooth belly before. I am now trying to remember to moisturise my skin as much as possible to help them fade and as other mama’s tell me – any pregnancy marks are like earning my tiger stripes!

Keeping it real, I have been testing Palmer’s skincare products – they are affordable and accessible, and I get recommended them all the time above many other more expensive brands for scar care and stretch marks.

I have a few products to discuss here;

I have the Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Scar Serum, Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks and Bust Cream. The Palmer’s range is HUGE. Where have I been? I thought they had one Cocoa butter and that was it but it’s truly massive with a big range for pre/post natal women too! And babies!

The Scar Serum (£9.99) is a super thick clear rich oil formula. It’s super thick to the point that it can be a bit hard to press the pump down! This contains Vitamin E which is well known for treating scars – this stuff is more effective I think, than buying the capsules and popping them to apply to the skin if you have larger areas to treat.

The scar serum help with scars and marks from surgery, injury, burns, stretch marks, c-sections, cuts, scrapes, insect bites. It cannot be used on open wounds and can be massaged 3-4 times daily (seriously though I would never remember to use is that many times).

I like this serum – like I said earlier it reminds me of the vitamin E capsules but in a handier format. It’s also a nice one to use on my scars (I have got some from the surgery). It’s quite thick, so takes a bit longer to sink in but I don’t see it as an all over thing, just for targeted treatment – I can’t think of any other scar treatment I have similar to this one so I will definitely continue using it. I have noticed scars lightly fading somewhat and my skin feels less tight too.

The Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks (£3.09) is a light weight lotion with that cocoa butter smell (well, the Palmers one). I have been using this on my tummy POST birth and once again it is too soon to say it is effective (realistically it can take a year or maybe more for stretch marks to reach that silvery stage) but I like the price, the quantity, the lightweight easy to use texture that sinks in in good time. Keeping the skin hydrated is really important (my skin is naturally dry anyway) and this is a really nice lotion to use to rub in – it has that silky feel.

Palmers Bust Cream (£4.10) is a rich cream that sinks in fast again for the bust area. It can be used post natally BUT must be removed from the nipple for breastfeeding (would you like to eat lotion along with your lunch?!). Once again, let’s get real – no cream is going to truly firm up your chi-chis, but what it can do is improve your skin tone and texture. I really like this cream – I have a sensitive decollate, I don’t know why but some lotions make me trashy around there and this one doesn’t. I use this after the shower, I don’t apply twice a day because I have my boobs out constantly for nursing at the moment but its nice to have a little break and rub this in for a little errrr breast massage.

In all seriousness though, nursing mums should give their boobies a treat, although I would avoid the nipples and use a specific balm if you want to hydrate that area. Breast massage can also stimulate milk flow etc.
