Valentine crafts: Easy string art
These fun Valentine crafts give the look of popular string art designs, but for half the time! Plus preschool aged kids can do this cute Valentine craft! Corey used them as Valentines but you could also just frame your masterpieces for simple decor. Also, think about using different shapes and colors for kid crafting all year round!
Hi there! It’s Corey from TinySidekick back this month to share a really easy and fun way to make some handmade Valentine’s Day cards inspired by the geometric goodness of string art! The best part about this project is that you most likely already have everything you need and you could get the kids involved on this one too.
- A piece of cardstock or blank card
- Craft paint in the color(s) of your choice
- a couple small pieces of cardboard (from a cereal or cracker box)
- a piece of paper
- scissors
- repositionable spray adhesive
Let’s get crafting!
First, cut out a heart that will fit on the front of your card from the piece of paper. Spray the back of the cut out with a tiny bit of spray adhesive and place it onto the front of your card where you want your string art heart to be. Smooth the edges of the heart with your finger to ensure that there are no air bubbles.
Grab a few pieces of thin cardboard that have a straight edge long enough to span the width and height of your heart. (Cereal or cracker boxes work great.) You will need one piece of cardboard per color that you are using.
Squirt some craft paint onto a paper plate in a line so that when you dip the edge of the cardboard the entire edge gets a bit of paint on it. Don’t squirt too much paint. You don’t want the cardboard to dip into too deep of a puddle of paint.
Then to make the “string art” lines, simply dip the edge of the cardboard into the paint (dab it on the plate to get excess paint off if necessary) and start stamping in different directions over the heart making sure that you are going all the way across the heart each time. Switch colors and repeat.
Finally, when you have lots of lines, carefully peel off the heart cut out and let the card dry.
Of course you will want to fill the inside with lots of lovely words to tell that special someone how much they mean to you, but the handmade touch will definitely let them know too!
