A Time for Retreat

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you’ll know that last week I had the good fortune to attend a four-day art workshop along the coast of Squam Lake in New Hampshire.

And many of you have asked for me to share my thoughts and experiences. But the truth is, I’m not sure that I can. Certainly not fully.

What I can say is this. I went expecting a four-day creative workshop. Four-days to dive in and do what I do best – make! Four-days to take classes from amazing instructors, working to expand my creative toolbox and build my creative skills.

What I got was so much more.

What I thought would be at the center – the logistics of creativity – turned out to reside at the periphery. And while I did add a handful of skills to my toolbox, what I took home with me extended far beyond the creative techniques I learned.

What I got was truly transformative and, at risk of sounding completely dramatic, life-changing.

I’m not sure that I’ll ever be able to fully share or describe my Squam experience any better than I just have in words. But I think these pictures, and the words that go along, do a good job of showing more than I could ever say.

And while I would {highly} recommend a trip to Squam, I know it can be hard to swing the logistics. Sometime soon we’ll be sharing ideas for carving out a tiny retreat of your own – something that everyone should be able to manage.
