You cannot go wrong with pulled pork in the slow cooker, but sometimes the options get a little…shall we say boring? So I was sitting around thinking about how I can spice things up a bit and bring a little zest and a new flavor profile to the classic pulled pork recipes.

I love citrus, and so I went with orange simply because it is one of those fruits that I always have in the fruit drawer in the fridge. And then I thought I wanted to add a bit of kick too, so I went with Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, which offers some spice and smokiness to the meat. And to round it out and add a touch of sweetness I went with bottled barbecue sauce. You just add it all to your crockpot, let it cook until the meat is “fork tender” and shred it up.
I served the pulled pork on some delicious rolls I picked up from the bakery with a side of sweet potato fries. And for us adults – the perfect beer to go with this recipe – Blue Moon beer!

Notes
The spiciness level on this recipe as is leans towards the mild spice. My 4 children ate this just fine without complaint. You don’t really get the spice right away but it is more of a lingering tingle after you eat a bite. If you would like less spice I would just cut down on how much chipotle in adobo sauce you use (maybe 1/2 a can). And of course, if you like it hot, add more!
