BH Cosmetics 36 Pc Ultimate Brush Set- First Impressions
If you keep up with me on Twitter (@CupcakesNCurves –Follow Me!), you know that I’ve been getting together reviews on a couple of different brush sets. I wanted to try out a few of the “cheaper” brands, so all of the brush sets I’ve purchased and will be posting about are very wallet-friendly!
Today, we’re going to be looking at the BH Cosmetics 36 Pc Ultimate Brush Set. I watched several reviews on YouTube before purchasing this set, because it was one of the more expensive ones, and I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t just throwing my money away. That being said, I really really wanted to like this brush set…
…And, for the most part, I really really don’t, my favorite aspect of it is actually the brush roll. I was so disappointed upon opening this set. After I got over the overwhelming smell of plastic that I’ve noticed that these brush sets tend to have, I dove in to inspect all of them individually.
I’ll be the first one to admit that I am a huge brush snob. Most of my personal collection consists of MAC and Sigma brushes, so I went into this expecting to be at least kind of disappointed. Most of these brushes, with the exception of a select few which I will get into in a minute, are extremely stiff and cheap feeling. Again, you get what you pay for, right? I personally wouldn’t use them just because I doubt that they would work very well. I almost feel like I got a “bad set”, because so many people seem to love these. I also need to add that I haven’t washed them yet, so that could attribute to the stiffness, I will post an update if that is the case.
I am, however impressed with a few of these brushes! The face ones are extremely soft and fluffy. They’re not as dense as I would like, but they are soft enough that I would actually use them. There are 3 or 4 shadow brushes that stand out from the rest with tan/brown bristles…those are good too! Soft to the touch and dense enough that I believe they will pick up and place color well. I love how long the handles are too!
I think that this set would be perfect for beginners just starting out, who love to play with makeup. Here’s a closer look at the brushes!
After going through all of these, I realized that I may have doubles or gotten some of the names wrong…a lot of them look exactly the same on the website, so I gave it an educated guess. I also realized that I’m missing two. One of them is the Spoolie brush, which broke the second that I pulled it out of the roll. The other? I’m not sure…I guess it wasn’t sent to me. So, technically, I have the “34 PC Brush Set”…
Stay tuned because next week I have another brush set that I will be reviewing! I’m trying to space them out, if you can’t tell.
