Travel Quote of the Day #2 – curiosity is cool

There are a lot of travel quotes that I find cliche and untrue. Like: “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space”, glorifying thrill-seeking and crazy adventures. Or this one: “I travel a lot; I hate having my life disrupted by routine.”

What’s with that, dear friends, why do we all have to go for thrills, danger, Adventure with a capital A and peak experiences? Why is that the new norm? What happened to the art of seeing the beauty in daily life? In the world around us?

That’s why I love the (travel-) quote above: “Blessed are the curious, for they shall have adventures.” For me, that’s what it is all about: being curious. The ultimate remedy for boredom. A key factor for gratitude and happiness.

I was not always a curious person.
Being a scaredy-cat and a shy girl when I was younger, being curious was not an option. I needed to shut out the external world, literally, in order not to be overwhelmed. My bedroom was my world, reading books brought me adventures and playing with my Barbie dolls was my social life. I know, it sounds pretty pathetic, right?
Whatever….it was what it was….
Fortunately I was able to grow stronger, to overcome a lot of my fears and to become the curious person that I am now. And I love it. Curiosity makes me go out and explore the world. I don’t mean far, far away and all, no, just walking around the block with a curious eye makes everything so much more interesting and rich.

There’s no point in exaggerating, claiming that there is no such thing as boring and boredom. But curiosity definitely helps!

Are you a curious person? Are you easily bored, needing new experiences and thrills all the time, in order to feel alive and happy? Or can you see the beauty in your own street and town?
