Lalesso

On Thursday evening I went to see the launch of Lalesso’s pop-up at The Grand Beach Cafe. For those of you that don’t know, Lalesso is a well-established South African clothing label founded by Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser, who were inspired to create the brand after a holiday to Lamu Island off the north coast of Kenya. After studying fashion design together in Cape Town, the two were impelled to harness the magical beauty of the East African ‘khanga’, also known as ‘lesso’, to create vibrant, nonchalant summer fashion. I had the privilege of meeting these two talented ladies, and I can tell you that, apart from the fact that they’re so friendly and down-to-earth, their vision and passion for what they do shines through their clothes. Summer in Cape Town is fantastic. Especially in December and January when I get to enjoy spending time outdoors and in the fresh air with my family and friends. Fun things like swimming, sunset walks on the beach, hikes, picnics, drinks in Camps Bay. These are moments to cherish and there is nowhere else in the world I’d rather be.
