My First Macaroons


My first macaroons were, in a word…disastrous! I prepped my ingredients, took on board advice and tips but just didn’t crack it. Macaroons are so pretty. Those wonderfully coloured and flavoured little bites of delicious that infiltrate our baking books, tv programmes and Pinterest feeds! I so so wanted to be able to make something aesthetically pleasing as well as a tasty little morsel but today it was not meant to be. Using THIS RECIPE from the BBC website as my guide I also picked up tips HERE and intended to make the ganache quoted HERE. However, I never got that far. It just didn’t seem worth it after the biscuits failed. Trying to highlight the mistakes is difficult when you’ve never made them before and don’t have any guidelines but I figure my first cock up was grinding my own almonds. They were not as fine as I would have liked and therefore my mixture wasn’t entirely smooth. Something also went wrong at the stage of combining the sugar syrup to my egg whites because no amount of beating made my mixture stiff and peaky again. From then on in it was all downhill.
