Digit-al Dozen geek week day 1 - golden ratio nail art

Hey guys! It's time for another Digit-al Dozen theme week and this week's theme is geek! I had a lot of ideas for this theme and I'm pretty excited about this week.
Today I have some color block nails based on the golden ratio!

The golden ratio is a principle of good proportions in math and art. It's basically a rectangle divided into a square and another rectangle that's divided into a square and another rectangle etc. I loved the idea of doing nails based off the golden ratio - it's pleasing to look at and I definitely think it's a sufficiently geeky concept for a manicure this week haha.

I started this design with a base of China Glaze I'm Not Lion, still one of my all-time favorites. When I first started working on it, my base was China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around... but then when I started the art portion I messed it up really bad so I had to start alllll over. If you follow me on Instagram you saw the picture I posted of DLA... basically I hate it haha. Worst formula EVER and a total pain to apply, so I didn't want to have to do it AGAIN.

So anyway, when I started over I decided to go for a nice glitter with a good formula instead and I'm super glad I did!

I freehanded the design using my mid-length striper brush. I started by painting a large rectangle on each nail extending from almost the base to the tip of my nails. Then I painted smaller rectangles on top of the first, forming a square and a rectangle. I repeated that until I had used 5 colors on each nail.

The colors I used are all from the China Glaze spring collection - Fancy Pants, Tart-y for the Party, Mimosas Before Manis, Life is Rosy, and Keep Calm, Paint On.

I love color blocking, so I really like the way this turned out! I'm especially happy that I ended up using a glitter base. What do you guys think?
