Recent Happenings

Afternoon friends! I haven’t done a life update (a.k.a photo dump) post in quite sometime and today for whatever reason I feel like I have some good stuff to share sooo here we go.

Peanut flour protein pancakes are making a serious comeback in my breakfast routine. I don’t know why I had forgotten about them?! They’re so good. Especially topped with fresh fruit and drizzled with peanut butter.

Isaac and I can’t stop listening to the new Sufjan Stevens album. I typically like to listen to fun, upbeat music so this album is a change of pace (it’s definitely made me cry on more than on occasion) but it’s so lovely and beautiful. Tracks 1, 2, 3 and 6 are my favorites right now.

We got tickets to see Sufjan next month and I’m beyond stoked.

We finally tried Southbound. The restaurant is owned by two awesome local chefs — Lee Gregory (executive chef and co-owner of The Roosevelt) and Joe Sparatta (executive chef and co-owner of Heritage). Both are on our short list of Richmond favorites so we’ve been wanting to try Southbound for quite sometime.

It was a friend’s birthday so we went with a large group and had an awesome experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. One of the best meals we’ve had out in a while.

Isaac and I split the asparagus and ramp salad. It was tasty. Isaac lucked out and got to have both pieces of bread since I’m still doing the gluten-free thang.

I had the scallops for my entrée and they were epic — cooked to perfection and I loved the succotash and celery root puree as well.

Isaac ordered the fried chicken sandwich and said it was delicious. You can’t see his massive portion of fries in the picture, but they were thin, crispy and way too good to pass up so I helped him polish them off.

Gelati Celesti is one of our favorite places to get real deal, homemade ice cream in Richmond. We went last Wednesday (right after eating at Southbound) and it was delicious, per the usual. I was a little bummed they didn’t have my favorite cinnamon oatmeal raisin cookie dough flavor (they never seem to have it when I go) but they did have a peanut butter praline flavor that I enjoyed so it was okay.

Plus this sign made my night.

I’ve been waiting for Richmond to get a blowdry bar and guess what, it finally happened. Shine blowdry bar opened last week!

Alyssa and I went on Saturday to try it out and had a great experience.

They encouraged us to take selfies throughout the process and upload them on Instagram. As you can tell, we had fun with it.

And the finished product looked lovely — perfect for a fun night out.

I don’t know about you, but I can never style my hair the way hair dressers do so blowdry bars make me incredibly happy. If only I could either 1) learn how to do it myself or 2) have a stylist do my hair every day! The latter sounds awesome. I’ll have to work on that.

Last but not least, this creation is my new favorite mixed drink and it will most certainly be coming to the blog soon. Get excited!

That’s all for now. See ya soon with a fun new springy salad recipe.

How was your weekend? Do anything fun?
