In Our Closet: Dressing Down a Jacquard Skirt

If you saw my post from last week about dressing down lace you’re probably noticing a theme here. I’ve been inspired by a lot of my more formal pieces lately and have been looking for ways to make them appropriate for more casual settings.

Cue this jacquard skirt. Jacquard is traditionally a very formal fabric, often featuring ornate and luxurious designs. Its shimmer and texture can be intimidating, but dressing down a jacquard skirt can get you a lot more miles out of the piece.

I decide to pair it with my trusty H&M sneakers and a whimsical t-shirt featuring a hen from J.Crew. I added a blush leather belt (also from J.Crew) for a subtle pop of color and called it a day. Necklaces, bracelets, and layers would have over complicated the look. I wanted the skirt to shine and so went with some of my casual wardrobe staples.

So what do you think – inspired to dust that jacquard skirt off and bring it out of your closet? What other pieces are you trying to figure out how to wear more casually? Let me know in the comments and we’ll feature them in a future post!
