Emma-Jane Harbour

De Hoek

Earlier this year during a trip up to Joburg Dylan and I got to escape the chaos of our move and spent a night at De Hoek in Magaliesburg, about an hour away from JHB & PTA.

For ages I had heard people raving about this place (especially about the food!) and finally I got to experience it for myself.

We drove through the entrance, down a long, bushy road and over a bridge and there it was! Crisp, clean buildings and freshly mown lawns. I instantly felt relaxed.

We were greeted by name at our car, and after getting our bags carried to our room we quickly started to unwind by exploring the grounds and settling into our comfortable room.

The rooms have a distinctly homey feel to them yet they’re still very luxurious.

I particularly loved the bay windows. The perfect place for reading, drinking tea and having a nap when your eyes can no longer stay open.

In the evening we got dressed up for dinner. You have to be a little bit fancy when eating fancy food prepared by Michael Holenstein and his brigade of Chefs.

The Verdict: Fresh, delicious and beautifully presented.

Our sweet little breakfast table.

Just love the attention to detail.

One last cup of tea before we head home.
