Easy Crochet Hat–Free Pattern

Are you looking for a quick little crochet project to whip up right now? This easy crochet hat pattern will help you use up that yarn stash you’ve been hoarding forever.

If you know how to crochet rows you can make a hat. Working in the back stitch gives it a nice ribbed look. It takes a little practice on the first few stitches, but you’ll get the hang of it in a couple minutes.

Pick your favorite color and let’s get started. You can finish it in an evening while watching a movie…now that’s my kind of project for sure.

Supplies…

Medium {4} Yarn – My favorite is Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand

Crochet Hook – US H8/5mm

Plastic Crochet Needle

Here’s how you can make one of these today…

Pattern…

Chain 40 to start.

To begin the 2nd row chain 1 and start your stitch into the second stitch. You will do all your stitches in the back loops. {See the image below.}

Once you get the hang of stitching in the back stitch you will be unstoppable!

Crochet single stitches to the end, chain 1 and turn to start the next row.

Crochet rows until it measures about 15 inches wide. This should be enough for an adult hat.

Fold it in half like the photo above. You will want the side that will be the inside of the hat facing out.

Stitch the side closed with single stiches or slip stitches all the way up.

Once the side is together take the plastic yarn need and a piece of yarn to loosely stitch around the top edge. Then cinch it tight to create the top of the hat.

Finish the top by sewing the remaining hole together at the top. I squeeze the top together and add several stitches. Then tie a knot.

Flip the hat right side out and fold up the bottom.

Trim any stray ends and you’re finished.

This is such a fun and rewarding project! Hats make great gifts and they can even be donated to many organizations. It will take less than a skein of yarn.

I’ve had such a great time making these that I didn’t even want to stop and post about them. But, this pattern is way to easy to not share with the world.

Spread the love one hat at a time.

Everyone could use a little handmade goodness!
