Simple “Pop Your Own” Corn

Another yummy post from my sister today! Check out all the cute crafty stuff she’s been up to (lots of crocheted treasures!) on her Facebook Page.

Hi again! Thanks for letting me share a simple popcorn post with you today.

I have had a few people ask me about avoiding prepackaged microwave popcorn in favor of a healthier version. Here is a simple recipe that I use that is quick and flavorful.

I start with coconut oil and popcorn kernels.

Add about a tablespoon of coconut oil to a medium saucepan, over a medium heat.

You are looking for a thin layer of melted oil on the bottom of your pan.

When the oil is melted, add 2-3 kernels of popcorn to your pan. This tests the heat of the oil to make sure it is ready for popping.

Very important to put the lid on the pan so your popcorn does not jump out with hot oil.

When the kernels pop, you can add the rest of your kernels. I use about 1/4 cup.

Not more than a single layer on the bottom of the pan or it will overflow when it pops.

Again, very important to add the lid. Keep that popcorn contained

When you hear the popping slow down, remove your pan from the heat. I toss mine a little bit before I remove the lid so any remaining oil can flavor the popcorn.

Voila! You have made a healthy and delicious snack! Sometimes I add salt but it tastes great without as well. Add whatever spices you want

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find this recipe as simple as I intended. I would love to hear how you jazz it up!

Thanks, Erica! We love to make our own popcorn, too! Tastes better and so much healthier, YUM!
