Rustic Glam Plantation Wedding

If you follow this blog, you’ll know peonies are one of my favorite flowers, maybe the favorite. I’m not alone. I know many of you feel the same, and why not, right? Such a gorgeous flower should be cherished and admired and used frequently. So I’m glad to see such stunning peonies, as well as other beautiful details, in Nicole and Mike’s rustic glam plantation wedding in Texas photographed by Kristen Curette Photography.

What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme / vibe? It was honestly because the original colors I wanted were too “spring” and light. So, I was thinking about it one day. The flowers I wanted to give as favors were not in season (very expensive), so I was thinking and thought I could go without those favors and changed my colors last minute to be a very dark, sexy, but classic look. So indecisive. Haha.

Favorite detail and/or moment of the day? I think the best part of that day was having my mom and sisters help me get into my wedding dress. Watching my mom get all teary eyed was so inspiring and made me so proud of myself for finding a man that my whole family loves and staying true to myself. The other part that really got me choked up was during the first look. Every second of walking around the Plantation to go see Mike for the first time was so extremely nerve wrecking. The sound of my heels clicking on the floor, the wind in my hair, my family “ooohhhing and aweing”, and then my hands all clammy and gross. Haha. And then the moment I saw his back-I just remember getting so out of breath that I just had to stop and compose myself and force myself not to cry. I remember telling myself “Go at your own pace-slow is good.” I didn’t want to fall. Haha. And my goodness-he was sooooo handsome. I am one lucky lady.

Did you undertake any DIY projects? If so what? I did! The signs that were made for the sign in guest book were DIY. I had help from my sister and her steady hand, Hobby Lobby and Pinterest. We also put together the few centerpieces. HEB had some pretty flowers and we were on a budget. I was thinking about doing a time capsule, but unfortunately, I did not have time. I also had a picture of my grandfather on a locket on my bouquet as well. He lost his battle to cancer in 2012 and I was really bummed that he was not able to be there or able to meet Mike and Kloey. He was definitely there in spirit.

Any funny stories in the lead up to or on the day? Uh, well, when I got up the morning of the wedding, Mike and I split apart early that morning. He went to Trophy’s Barber Shop to get his hair done and I started packing up my things and all of our decorations to go to the Plantation. Well, I thought I was going to make 2 trips to the Plantation, but by the time I was there, I was forbidden by my sister to leave to go anywhere because she thought I was going to accidentally bump into Mike and ruin everything. haha. So, I had to get my stepdad and little sister to rummage through my messy room and house and find everything in the world to bring to me. My clothes (yes, I forgot my clothes), nail polish, toothbrush/toothpaste, face wash. You name it, I forgot it. Haha. Thankfully, they were able to find everything and bring it to the Plantation and I never left once I got there.

Advice for other couples planning a wedding? Don’t worry about everything too much. Some of the very small details will be forgotten about the day of the wedding and you’re going to laugh when you look back and see how much you stressed out over it. People told me this when I was stressing out over things and I doubted them. Through all the stress that comes with planning a wedding, don’t forget the meaning behind getting married. It’s not about money, how the flowers look (they all die), the clouds that come out to cover up the sunshine or the other small things that go wrong. The important thing is that you are marrying the love of your life before God and having the closest friends and family there to witness and support your special day. And eating wedding cake. Wedding cake is important, too.

Thanks for stopping by!
