Mulberry Ink Blue Silky Snake Print Leather Bayswater

Every now and then I have to question my sanity, mainly due to other people questioning whether or not I’m actually on the same planet as them, but rest assured, my risks are calculated.

Let me set the scene, it’s a Thursday evening and your first day back at work after the Christmas break. You spy a handbag that retailed at over a thousand pound, and now it’s 50% off. Still, coming in at just over half a thousand pound many care to dream but shake the thought off – that’s insane for a handbag right? Wrong.

I never used to like the Bayswater, so popular and slightly conservative I fell in love with the Daria collection – but my old age has slowly seen the Bayswater grow on me. No longer would I have to dip my hand into my Daria hobo and never be able to find anything, the bayswater offered a structured bag, perfect for being able to see and access all my handbag crap at ease – after all, not being able to find the kitchen sink can be a total pain!

So some say, on this Thursday evening I lost the plot, went mad, had more money than sense – but I didn’t. After spending countless hours on eBay for months on end searching for my dream bayswater, I never found one but I did learn about the general re-sale value of the bag – all this research (unknowingly) lead to my decision to take the plunge. Whatever the outcome, I could re-sell the bag if I ever need the money, and potentially for a profit. I didn’t buy the bag specifically to make a profit, but I know I could get the majority (if not all) my money back if I change my mind. Not sounding so crazy any more?

If you want to buy your dream bag (but potentially re-sell) here are my tips:

  • Buy at the right time – if it’s a seasonal colour wait for the sales, Mulberry have two every year.
  • Only buy classic colours at full price, but be prepared to make a loss.
  • DON’T loose the receipt, dust bag, or care cards – they add value if you re-sell
  • Take great photos, you want to capture the hearts of your potential bidders. This means no blurry, out of focus or badly taken photos.
  • Try to keep the bag in the best condition possible (obviously)

And on that note, if you’ve worked hard and want to treat yourself, go for it. Here’s my newest addition, a Mulberry Bayswater in silky snake ink blue. The ‘ink blue’ looks totally black, so a classic colour that goes with anything, and I just seem to keep falling more and more in love. You’ll be able to see my Bayswater in action in my next post (dressing for success)…
