Cherry Baby

I’ve always had a soft spot for Sakura, otherwise known as Cherry blossom. When I was trying and failing to be good at art at school, the only thing I half (emphasis on half) mastered painting was traditional Japanese blossom trees. And while the trees in London might currently be bare and the weather outside is increasingly frightful, I can’t think of a better time to embrace a tiny bit of oriental Springtime.

I’ve always loved decorative Eastern embroidery. Be it a silk Chinese dress or an embroidered Japanese dressing gown, the majority of my favourite vintage purchases over the years have been inspired by the traditional artisansry of the far east. And while they’re beautiful on the beach with denim cut-offs and tanned limbs, kimonos are pretty much perfect for this time of year when it comes to getting dressed after the watershed. This dreamy one is from Talitha, one of my favourite British brands that my inner gypsy can’t get enough of, and ideal for throwing over t-shirts or camisoles to dress for dinner, drinks and beyond. You know me, always one to dress something down, I went for a white tee to balance out the velvet trousers and the boudoir vibes of the kimono.

More velvet I hear you cry… I know, I know, I’m becoming obsessive. But these Frame trousers are so subtle in their rich, inky blackness that they feel really different to all my velvet purchases of late. They’re one of two picks from The Undone, the new online store for dedicated minimalists and fans of pared-back simplicity, recently set-up by my Aussie pal Sara of the blog Harper & Harley (and incidentally, owner of the best skin I ever did see). The insanely good earrings were my second purchase from the new store and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing them with Pat Butcher pride all month long. Jewellery this good just makes anything and everything better doesn’t it. Just as good with a massive, chunky polo neck and jeans by day too.

So yes, by all means let it snow, but there’s no need to put all your flowers in the attic until spring…
