EAT + DRINK | My EatWith Review

EatWith is a totally NEW type of dine-out experience that pairs adventurous eaters with gracious and talented chefs around the world. Chefs host the dinners in their own homes and cook out of their own kitchens! It’s like Airbnb for eating, but with an added bonus: you get to meet other people who are also eating around the same table. The result is a delicious food experience that introduces diners to new chefs and also new people.

The folks at EatWith invited me to test the concept for myself, and it was such a great experience. I signed up online and created my EatWith profile. Then I invited myself to “eat with” Shuchi (get it?), a host who created a really creative five-course, Indian-inspired Christmas dinner.

Oh my, it was a lovely time. Shuchi was such an amazing host. Her apartment was absolutely gorgeous (with the best view of the Freedom Tower), and she was very warm and engaging. She made everyone feel like we’d known each other much longer than two hours. Our fellow guests were great people too. Several of them had been to Thailand, and they wasted no time giving Q and I tips of what to see and do on our honeymoon. Nothing felt awkward or forced. We were all just there to have a good time with good conversation.

And then there was the food! Shuchi’s food was just…amazing. The dishes were complex, but not complicated, you know? We had five courses of modern Indian cuisine inspired by traditional American Christmas dishes, and the pairings (like pulled chicken curry and creamy polenta) were just so unique. Shuchi’s style of Indian-American fusion was so very refined and elevated, I can’t believe she came up with those beautiful menu items without any formal training! She actually left her profession as a banker to pursue a career in culinary arts. It was awesome to talk to her about her transition to creative entrepreneur!

I really want to thank the folks at EatWith for inviting Q and I to experience this unique way to eat good food and meet good people. And special thanks to Shuchi for her hospitality and really amazing cooking!

Are any of you guys interested in trying EatWith? It’s pretty cool, and I highly recommend trying it out for yourself!

XO
