Feisty Fashion Feature // Yanique Revers of The Queen of Hearts

Be warned: Yanique of The Queen of Hearts is not a blogger on a budget. At least not on my budget, anyway. I really wanted to feature Yanique because she wears high-end brands (think Mulberry, Margiela, Miu Miu, Givenchy), but still manages to pull off a down-to-earth, girl-next-door kinda style. She knows what she looks good in, and sticks to that silhouette. She’s nailed her “fashion uniform,” allowing her to buy more timeless pieces, rather than jumping at every single trend that pops up. Read her interview below to learn more about Yanique’s classic style…
Tell us a bit about your blog and why you started blogging.

My blog, “The Queen of Hearts,” was born out of a need to have a creative outlet while in law school. In the beginning (2008/2009), there weren’t very many fashion blogs out there, so I treated my space as a bit of fashion diary. I posted images of what I wore and shared a bit of my life for those interested. I wrote a great deal in the beginning; I reviewed popular shows like MTV’s “The City” and fashion collaborations.

What are 5 fashion items (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) that describe your personal style?

I’m a shoe woman, so let’s start there. Footwear is very important to me; I always review an outfit from the ground up. For me, your footwear anchors your look; it is the strength. At the moment, my favorite pair of shoes (unfortunately) are my Givenchy Sheath boots in suede. I say unfortunately, because the quality isn’t great (one of the locks is broken). Nevertheless, I still love them because they are quite stunning and elevate every look.

A strong handbag collection is also important. At current, I own several bags that I consider to be staples in any wardrobe. One in particular that I wear quite often is my Givenchy Nightingale. In that instance, Givenchy got it right in terms of quality! My Nightingale can take quite a beating and still look fabulous. I carry her to work and sometimes use her as a carryon when I’m traveling. The look of the bag, I believe, mirrors me in that it is chic, yet understated.

I don’t wear many accessories. However, when I do, I like the one or two pieces that are really special to me. My two favorite items are my Michele Deco watch and my Alexis Bittar Lucite “bust” ring. Everyone needs a decent watch. Yes, it serves the functionality of telling time but there’s an inherent elegance to a fine timepiece that few other pieces of jewelry can replicate. My watch is just that with its diamond and pearlescent dial. It’s a beautiful watch without being gaudy. As for my ring, I’m a pretty big fan of Alexis Bittar. His work is always striking and lust worthy. I found the ring in a gorgeous shop in Puerto Banus, Spain. It was the only one of its kind — a Lucite bust, surrounded by precious stones? Yes please! It was too odd and rare not to be mine.

For my last item, I will have to go with my Mulberry Toscana jacket. As the most recent acquisition, the jacket is just very beautiful and feminine. I pretty much vie between a uniform of denim and t-shirts to full-skirt dresses. The jacket is just the perfect accessory to accentuate both areas. And the fur half sleeves are just exquisite. It’s always nice to have a little extra something in your piece!

How do you feel about the presence of Black fashion bloggers and Black style bloggers (too many, not enough, etc.)

Unfortunately, there is a noticeable lack of prominent black style bloggers. We are grossly underrepresented and (under)supported, yet we are a large consumer of fashion and definitely the largest consumer in beauty. Perhaps that is part of the reason why I maintain my sort of fledgling blog, in the hopes that others look to me for inspiration and motivation to enter into the (blogger) community.

Tell us anything else you think we should know…

Blogging has allowed me the opportunity to be endlessly creative. There are so many things that can be done with a blog; it’s almost overwhelming. You should see my to-do list!

I’m pretty friendly and most always up for a good chat. You’re welcome to access me on any of my platforms: here’s my Instagram , Facebook , Twitter and Bloglovin.
