Ruby Random Reflections Quilt
I’ve been working steadily on my UFO pile and I’m excited to show off a new finished quilt! Also, I’ll be sharing a series of confessions, so there’s that to look forward to.
Sooooo, I started this quilt maybe 4 years ago, back when I hadn’t made but maybe one or two quilts. Fortunately this pattern is super easy to put together and looks great with any fabric line! The pattern is called Random Reflections and it’s on the Moda site as a free pattern.
Confession #1: This quilt has been sewn and half quilted for four years. I’ve moved it three times . . . half quilted. So pitiful. :)
The fabric is Ruby from Bonnie and Camille – which I just adore! Well, everything by Bonnie and Camille is pretty amazing. But the colors in this line are so bright and fun!
I made mine a little longer than the pattern, I wanted a rectangular quilt instead of a square.
Confession #2: (this is a “What Not to Do” confession) When I started the quilting, I had only quilted one other quilt. I knew I wanted straight lines, but I didn’t want to do free motion straight lines – that seemed a lot harder. So I quilted it with the regular presser foot and the feed dogs up.
That results in the lovely “knitted” quilting pattern you see here – totally not what you want when you do straight line quilting.
You can see that the fabric pulls each way as you turn the quilt, so it makes a little diagonal design in the quilting. You can really see it on the seams.
I went ahead and quilted the last half the same way, I thought it would look odd to have half quilted a different way. But despite all that, I still love it! I love the fabric, the pattern and I love that it’s finished. :) And now that it’s washed up, it’s all crinkly and comfy and cute.
Oh – and the back! I made the back with fat quarters and one strip of fabric. I love how colorful it is!
So, I have another finished quilt – yay! On to the next!!
I’d love to know – have you had any quilting mishaps like this??
