Starting a Jo Malone fragrance collection - Nectarine Blossom & Honey and Blackberry & Bay review

Recently a sudden urge came over me to start a Jo Malone perfume collection. Usually I'm a Marc Jacobs Daisy kind of girl - and I still absolutely love those and have all the limited editions - but there's something about the grown-up luxury of Jo Malone that's really drawn me in. I've owned some of their amazing candles before, but never the perfumes until now. I've decided to go for the 30ml perfume spray sizes, so that I can get a good mixture of different scents, and I've started myself off with two quite different fragrances.

You've got to love that gorgeously chic but simple Jo Malone packaging. They're so lovely in store too. Someone helped me pick out my choices - Nectarine Blossom & Honey and Blackberry & Bay and they're so knowledgeable about all of the scents. They asked me which other fragrances I usually like and wear, and from that suggested some Jo Malone fragrances for me to try, and let me spray as many as I liked. We established that I like floral and fruity scents best, and there were lots that I really loved, so it was quite hard to narrow it down to two for now. After I had quite a few scents sprayed on the little tester cards I got confused about which was which, and the assistant was able to name then all by sniff - very impressive!
Nectarine Blossom & Honey
Jo Malone says - London's Covent Garden early morning market. Succulent nectarine, peach and cassis and delicate spring flowers melt into the note of acacia honey. Sweet and delightfully playful.
When you first spray this one you can really smell the peach, but it still smells fresh and not overly sweet. As the perfume dries down on the skin it becomes softer and you get more of a floral tone mixed with the peachy scent. It's absolutely gorgeous, and as it was almost spring-time when I bought this, I couldn't resist it. It'll make a great daytime scent for spring and summer, but it also puts me in mind of becoming a date night perfume for me, as it's a really girlie, pretty scent.
Blackberry & Bay
Jo Malone says - Childhood memories of blackberry picking...A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with the freshness of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. Vibrant and verdant.
I didn't think I was going to like this one, and tried it out of politeness when the lady helping me suggested it! It's a pretty unusual scent for me, and unlike anything else I own, but I really liked that about it. It smells fresh, fruity and woody all at the same time, and there's something that cuts through the scent - possibly the bay - but in my strange brain I think of it as blackberry or bramble prickles! It's a pretty sophisticated kind of scent, and it's also a very clean sort of smell. I feel like it's a much more grown-up scent than I'd usually go for, and it would certainly be a perfume I'd for important days at work when I want to feel confident.
I'm so pleased that I bought these, and can't wait to pick up a couple more. Peony & Blush Suede, and English Pear & Freesia were contenders when I was trying to choose between the fragrances I liked, so they may well come home with me next time. Now I just need to decide how I'm going to display and store all of these beautiful little bottles!
These Jo Malone fragrances cost £40 for 30ml and you can pick them up at jomalone.co.uk
