How To Enhance Monolid Eyes!
Hey guys! Today's look is a makeup tutorial that is actually quite similar to my last tutorial on Makeup for Glasses. I've been on a big monolid kick lately and have been getting more and more requests for more basic looks for those with single eyelids (aka eyelids without a crease) so I thought it would be perfect to show my favorite way to enhance monolids.
Those of you with monolids (no crease) or hooded lids (small crease that looks monolid when eyes are open) know how frustrating and tricky it can be to apply shadows, mascara, and liner to monolids since most of the "fun" part of makeup gets tucked underneath while this constant rubbing causes makeup to run.
This look allows a bit of fun with color while elongating the eyes to make them appear larger and more dramatic. It's also a rather smudge-proof look that is comparatively long-lasting. Check out the video below!

The final look has an elongated almond shape on the lid which shows off the shadow color while eyes are both open and closed.
Here is a close-up of the eye. The flared half-lashes blend in harmoniously without causing any creasing and when done correctly looks quite natural. Monolidders actually have the benefit of the lashes being under the lid so the lash line isn't as noticeable! Just choose a style that has a strong band so the lashes don't droop down and cover the eyes.
The reflective satin finish of the purple shade creates an illusion of depth in contrast to the dark contour shadow and matte inner-corner highlight.
In the above photo you can see a small crease on the left while the right is a true monolid. This look works for both hooded lids and monolids but if you'd like to see a look specific to uneven eyelids, check out my tutorial for that as well!
Below you may notice the lid with the small crease (left) hides most of the shadow when I smile but it still shows enough to make the eyes look larger and more defined. Although this amount of shadow may be intimidating for some, it actually comes across as being quite flattering and dynamic in real life since much of the shadow is hidden when eyes are open but with every blink you can see the beautiful color.
If you are having trouble finding out exactly how high to bring the shadow, start out with less and add a bit more and more until you can see the color while eyes are open. You really want to keep it juuuust above the line where your crease starts to hide since bringing it up too high can look like a hot mess. ;)
Remember, practice makes perfect and the key is finding what shape works for you, which takes experimentation! This technique is so easy when you get the hang of it but it does have a learning curve so be patient and add little by little. It's worth it!
