Vote for the Best Curb Appeal Project in Our Design Awards

Our judges have chosen the finalists, now you choose the winners. Vote for your favorite projects in our 2017 Considered Design Awards, once per day in each of the Gardenista and Remodelista categories. Voting closes at midnight on August 4, and winners will be announced on August 7.

Lush and Urban Project

Above: Amateur gardener Katharine’s Lush and Urban streetside landscape in San Francisco was chosen as a finalist by guest judge Rita Konig, who said: “Well, this just quite simply answers the Curb Appeal question! I think they have taken quite a challenging space and made it incredibly pretty, right at a crossroads. I love the choice of planting and the way they have used both sides of the sidewalk and the differences in height to create this landscape. I also think the palette is lovely.”

Ragged Ranch to Marvelista Modern Project

Above: Jennifer Ball’s Ragged Ranch to Marvelista Modern landscape in Nashville was also chosen by Rita Konig, who said: “I think this is a fabulous transformation from Brody’s house in the TV show Homeland to Darth Vader’s weekend retreat. I love the black; it is so chic in the landscape. I think this is a wonderful example of how you can take something quite ordinary and turn it into something fabulous if you have the confidence to paint it black and think a little differently. I love how they have made such good use of it all with the seating, too.”

Madison Park Garden Project

Above: Robert Edson Swain Architecture Design submitted this Madison Park Garden outside of Seattle, a pick by Gardenista editor Michelle Slatalla: “By setting back the fence from the property line, the architects welcome passersby to share the garden while still maintaining privacy for the clients. The handsome Corten steel fence panels are a nice coppery foil for the surrounding foliage (and the mailbox slot is an irresistible detail).”

Granberry Residence Project

Above: Meg Lonergan Interiors submitted the Granberry Residence in Houston, about which Gardenista editor Michelle Slatalla says: “I love the clever way the landscaping references the geometry of the building’s architecture. Sonoma Valley Residence Project

Above: Butler Armsden Architects designed this Sonoma Valley Residence chosen by Rita Konig: “This is really my kind of planting; it is so pretty and just the sort of thing I want to pass when I am walking down the street, fantasy house shopping. The dark greens, silvery greens, and white are so tranquil.”
