Kids Apron Tutorial & Free Pattern
My 3 year old loves to help cook in the kitchen. When I start dinner, he asks me if he can help and brings the chair over. I am happy to have him help, but he doesn't have an apron. And he wants one. And always asks for one. Mine are too big and it makes him mad. So I finally made him his own Ninja Turtle Apron. He was so excited and tells everyone about his apron.
Today, I thought I'd share my pattern with you and a little tutorial.
Grab the pattern HERE (Comes in 3 sizes 18month/2, 3/4, and 5/6)
This fits my almost 4 year old, so you might have to lengthen or change some measurements, but it should work out fine.
First, cut out the pattern and cut out 3 ties.
Apron Ties
Size
Cut 3
18 mo/2
2.25" x 22"
3/4
2.5" x 25"
5/6
3" x 28"
Take your apron piece and carefully iron all the edges towards the wrong side. You'll fold 1/4" and then again 1/2". It should look like the picture above.
Now for you straps, fold them with right sides together and stitch down one short edge and the long edge. Turn them right side out by pushing a pencil through the tube.
Next, place the raw edge of one strap on the underarm corner of the apron and stitch it down. I do 2 rows of stitches so it is reinforced. Repeat with opposite side.
Next, make your neck strap by pinning your 3 ties to the corners of the top of the apron. You'll want to measure your strap to make sure it can fit over your child's head and so that it isn't too low on the front. Once you have measured, stitch your neck strap down.
And you're done!!!!
