Goodbye Valentino

Happy Holidays Giveaway!

In a world where there is no such thing as bad publicity, I managed to let a November GOMI thread get to me. Who would have thought refashioning my husband’s 10-year-old cashmere sweater would have set off pages of fallacious comments about my lifestyle by the snarkers?

During this holy season and busy month I completely removed myself from the negative GOMI energy and returned to my musical roots. This December instead of sewing, I practiced the piano and presented two Christmas programs with my father. The break was refreshing and renewing, and now I’m ready to get back to sewing and blogging

The good news is I did not break the RTW Fast and I congratulate all of the brave souls who gave up shopping for sewing this year! We have only 5 days left, and I encourage anyone who wants to improve one’s sewing skills along with saving lots of $$$ to go for it in 2015!

For an End of the Fast and a Happy New Year celebration, I’m giving away a beautiful book I recently received from Laurence King Publishing, entitled The Swatch Book.

A lovely book to enhance all garment sewing……………………..

This easily navigable resource provides 125 swatches of the most recognised and widely used varieties of fabric to encourage consideration of not just their aesthetic appeal but also their structure, feel and weight. Natural fabrics such as cottons, silks, wools and linens are included, as are artificial and synthetic fabrics like nylons, polyesters, microfibers, metallics and soya fabrics, and fabrics made from alternative plant fibers like bamboo and hemp.

With information on fibres, basic construction of fabrics, weights, construction, and weave comparison, the book will help student fashion designers to make informed textile choices based upon an understanding of raw materials together with the processes that make up a fabric. The book will be useful for anyone who works with fabrics and is the ideal companion to Fabric for Fashion: The Complete Guide.

I believe The Swatch Book will be helpful to both new and seasoned sewists, and should be a great asset for online fabric shopping.

To enter the giveaway just leave a comment and the winner will be announced
