New Beauty Obsessions for April

New Beauty Obsessions for April

A new little something called Glow Lotion, a vitamin-C-and-turmeric serum, and the coolest, subtlest, easiest-to-put-on faux lashes you’ll ever see: Here’s what goop’s beauty editors—Jean, Megan, Simone, and Brianna—can’t get enough of this month.

All of our routines have gotten a little easier—and our skin significantly glowier—with the advent of the just-launched goop Glow Lotion. It brightens, moisturizes, and smooths skin both instantly and over time, and the results, on every skin type and tone, are dewy, fresh, and luminous enough that every one of us has been wearing less makeup and just loving our skin.

“Jenna Lyons (the style maven who led J.Crew for many years) looked at thousands of different eye shapes in developing her new, your-lashes-but-better line of false lashes, and they are absolutely gorgeous. She created an ingenious tool to make putting them on easier; all you need is drugstore eyelash glue and a willingness to try. I did it—easily, and I am left-handed and clumsy—and my whole face woke up instantly. I looked (to myself) younger and more naturally beautiful and not as if I were hoping to appear on Love Island. Would you wear these to, say, an organic dinner at Flamingo Estate? You would, and you can watch Lyons and her cohorts do precisely that on HBO’s brilliant Stylish with Jenna Lyons—a reality show, believe it or not, but a chic one.”

“It’s rare that a deodorant makes you feel prettier, but this gorgeously, subtly scented—green and a little floral and super sophisticated—silky-smoothest, most effective clean deodorant does, every time I put it on. The brilliant and gorgeous activist, podcaster, influencer, and soon-to-be author Katie Sturino used some of the tech she acquired making hit products like Thigh Rescue to create the miraculous formula, and it works like a dream, all day every day.”

“This sounds as delightful and skin-softening and mood-refreshing as it is. As you take a pump of the biphase formula, the ingredients—silver-ear mushroom for natural hyaluronic acid, and all manner of oils including apple and sunflower seed—mix together to create a lovely smooth milk that gently and moisturizingly sweeps away all your cares (not to mention sunscreen, makeup, dirt, etc.). The tall column of a bottle is cool and easy to use (it’s brilliant in the shower, where I most love to cleanse), and the cleanser is fantastic for every skin type—in the way of the basic cleansers dermatologists are always recommending, but infinitely more glamorous.”

“My dull, uneven-textured skin is no match for the new detoxifying clay mask from Follain. It’s made with three different clays (kaolin, bentonite, and montmorillonite) along with three types of acid (salicylic, glycolic, and lactic) plus vitamin C and papaya extract, which together gently but super effectively slough away dead skin and help even skin tone, brighten, and smooth. I do it once a week for about ten minutes, then wash it off—it never gets dry or tight—and my skin stays luminous and clear for the rest of the week.”

“We are vitamin C freaks here at goop. It’s a wonder ingredient that brightens, firms, soothes, and nourishes, no matter what your skin type. And the glow is no joke! I’m super excited about this new moisturizing serum from Beautycounter: The sunny packaging is the exact shade of the vitamin-C-and-turmeric-laced formula inside, and it absorbs instantly, cancels out dullness, and leaves my skin feeling smooth, supple, and refreshed. After just a few uses, I noticed a bright, even glow—which has continued to stick around.”

“When it comes to makeup, I like to highlight just one zone: lashes, brows, or lips—and leave the rest of my face clean and natural-looking. The combination just looks so fresh to me. The new star of the show is ILIA’s new balmy lip gloss. It feels cushiony and plumps up my lips in this super hydrated, healthy-looking way. The whole color range is stunning, but Tahiti, a warm, not-too-bright pink, is my favorite. It leaves the most gorgeous sheer wash of color that just looks like my own lip color but better.”

“I literally bound out of bed in the mornings to wash my face with this silky cleanser, exfoliating mask, and moisture treatment in one. (Granted the threshold for stimulating experiences is low and limited mostly to Netflix shows and fun food right now, but my excitement is very real.) I’m obsessed with its cooling gel texture and how beautifully it calms my breakouts, deep-cleans my pores, and exfoliates both chemically and physically with salicylic acid (dermatologist-loved for blemishes) and bamboo powder. A blend of organic and wild-crafted oils and botanicals bathes skin in moisture, leaving me smooth and dewy, and the gorgeous scarlet color makes it feel even more like a spa moment every time I dip in. Meeting the founder—a gorgeous Black woman based in Vancouver whose skin is unmistakably flawless even over Zoom—made me obsessed with wanting to try every Okoko product. Stay tuned.”

“If your hair is dry, no matter your texture, a leave-in treatment before bed makes the biggest difference. This one is super light but somehow magically feeds my hair, smooths frizz, and—best thing ever—smells like an explosion of wild jasmine flowers, so it doubles as hair perfume. To get a beachy, crinkly effect, I work in two or three pumps (one might suffice for finer hair), then weave my hair into five braids and bobby-pin each one into a mini bun/Bantu knot. In the morning, I wake up with the mussed abundance I love, and my hair smells fantastic.”

“Get naked, massage this prebath oil over your entire body, and soak in the tub for the twenty or so minutes it takes to unwind. Because you smooth it on before the bath, the blend of nourishing organic jojoba and olive fruit oils keeps your body moisturized throughout, despite the drying effect of hot water (the oil also cleanses at the same time). Once I’m out and toweled off, I can’t believe how plush and soft and supple my skin feels for a whole day afterward. I kid you not: I don’t need moisturizer for the next twenty-four hours. The lavender and sandalwood scent is beyond (the founder is a Harlem-based herbalist), and the body glow is next-level.”

“Working remotely over the past year, I’ve homed in on a quick, easy, no-makeup makeup routine that highlights my skin and makes me feel put-together. This tinted serum foundation blends like a dream, evens my skin tone, and moisturizes with hyaluronic acid and plant-based squalane. It has the most gorgeous, dewy finish, so my skin looks incredible, plus I love that it has SPF 40.”

“I absolutely love the texture of this calming milky gel cleanser—it feels like the kind of luxurious mask treatment you get at a spa when you first smooth it on. It’s especially great for balancing my skin when I have breakouts: It nourishes, purifies, and soothes, so my skin is left pristine and feeling so soft. It smells like fresh mint, and the tall glass jar looks so pretty, too.”

“I look my best when my brows look good (they’re naturally fair and sparse) so the one step I never skip is defining and filling them in with pencil. This one is incredible: The triangle-tip pencil on one side brilliantly mimics the look of real hair, making it easy to fill in sparse areas, and the spooley on the other end smooths and fluffs to make my brows look fuller. The Soft Brown shade matches my brow hair exactly and doesn’t smudge or fade throughout the day—I swear it looks like I just got my brows professionally done.”
