Making Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gifts…

Oh my goodness, what a week. I hope you guys are all having a great one, getting ready for Mother’s Day, making it through Teacher Appreciation, Cinco de Mayo, and heaven help you if you have sickies in the house too, like we do around here. :P Anyway – I did spend a little bit of fun time in the studio this week putting together something handmade for part of a Mother’s Day gift swap I’m part of, and I couldn’t help it, I really wanted to share! I love how this mixed media stamped necklace turned out:

I mixed my metals, and riveted blanks together for a heavy look and feel. I am sure hoping my swap partner likes it – I know everyone’s got a different style, after all. :) But I got this look with the Lollipop font from ImpressArt, a brass blank from Beaducation (hopefully they still sell them – I’m not sure. It’s been in my stash for quite a long time now) and ImpressArt crystal rivets. The base blank is a round pewter blank that I stamped with a little heart, and I put the whole thing on a ball chain. I’m not doing a full how-to today (sorry! I didn’t snap any photos, and I don’t have much time to write, either) but I still thought the design was worth sharing in case in inspires any of your stamping, or prompts you to put a last-minute gift together.

I also had to put together a little handmade card as well (of course)! It’s nothing fancy – I just layered some floral embossed card stock onto a white card, tore a scrap of green for a springy look, and die cut a few flowers. The little butterfly tag was my first venture into heat embossing… and wow. I was proud of myself for all of two seconds before I thought “Oh boy, just what I need: another technique to get obsessed with!” Haha. But it was much easier than I expected it to be, and it lets you add glitter. Seriously, does it get much better than that? :)

So I still have plenty of work to do, lights to install, painting to finish, family members with the sniffles to tend to – but I was glad to find time to make a handmade gift. I just love stamping!

So what about you – did you make anything for the mom in your life this year? Do you have kids who are making something for you?
