No-Sew Hexi Aromatherapy Drawer Sachets
Are you in full-on January organization mode? I’ve caught the bug a little bit myself, and I’m slowly making my way through organizing things that I meant to get to months ago. If your drawers are something you’re working your way through right now (or hey, maybe it’s easy for you to keep your dresser neat and tidy) I’ve got a little aromatherapy treat to share with you today. These scented drawer sachets can be made up with your favorite essential oils, and they don’t require any sewing at all!
Bonus, if you are in the midst of a year-end purge, snag a t-shirt or two, and use that fabric to make up your sachets! Or, just raid your scraps, because you only need a couple of 5-inch squares for each of these beauties. Then get out your Sizzix machine and your iron, and I’ll how you how to make scented drawer sachets.

- Sizzix Big Shot, extended platform, and standard cutting pads
- Sizzix Hexagon Fabric die, 2-1/4″ sides
- Sizzix Framelits 8pk Circle Die Set (I used the 3″ circle for this project)
- Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive (you only need about a 5-inch square for each sachet, so one yard will give you LOTS of leftovers)
- Iron
- 1 to 1.5 oz. uncooked white rice
- Your favorite essential oil(s)
First, cut your hexies. This was insanely easy. Like I can’t believe I haven’t cut fabric with my Big Shot before kind of easy. I had heard you could cut up to 8 layers at once, but I wanted to be sure they came out perfectly, so I started with 2 layers. I just sandwiched my die, face-up, and then 2 layers of fabric on top, between the standard cutting plates.
They came out so clean, I cut all the rest of my layers (4 more hexies) in the next pass. I didn’t do 8 at once, but I have no doubts about what the dies can handle. Mass-cutting your die cut shapes makes this project go really quickly!
I die-cut 3 hexagons from my Heat’n’Bond sheet as well, and then used a 3″ circle Framelit die to remove the center portion of it. For the Framelits, you’ll need the extended platform, with both tabs. Just sandwich your layers (I did all 3 at once) between the cutting plates, with the circle die centered over top of the hexies.
Iron the Heat’n’Bond onto your fabric, paper side up. You only need to press it for a couple of seconds on medium-high heat. Allow it to cool all the way, then clip one side of the paper of your hexagon, and remove the rest. This will leave exposed adhesive on 5 sides, and paper remaining on the sixth side. This may seem strange at first, but it will make perfect sense in the next step.
Iron the top hexagon onto the 5 sides of exposed adhesive, and allow your sachets to cool. You will have a little 5-sided “pouch” with one open side, so that you will be able to add your rice.
Meanwhile, add 2 drops of your favorite essential oil to each 1 oz. of rice you’re using. I found that the best amount of rice to add to each sachet was 1.25 oz. So for 3 sachets, add about 8 drops of oil to about 4 oz. dry, uncooked rice. Stir it very thoroughly, and then add 1.25 oz. to one of your sachets. Remove the last bit of paper from the open side, and iron the final side closed.
I was finished with 3 sachets in about 15 minutes, and since you can make them assembly-line-style, you could easily do at least a dozen in about an hour. They make for a fun gift, or they are great to toss in all the dressers or closets in your house, if you love aromatherapy!
