Habitat Autumn/Winter 2015 Preview

Two weeks ago I was in Paris attending the press preview of the coming autumn/winter 2015 collection by Habitat. Habitat always surprises me with their great press previews (do you remember last year’s one?). This year Habitat had chosen to host the preview at the famous Parisian flea market in Saint-Ouen in the city’s north. It was a very hot and sunny Thursday morning when I took off to the Habitat 1964 Espace Vintage, Habitat’s own vintage store in the flea market’s center. In an adjacent building the visual team of Habitat had recreated the new collection in a real home setting breathing the air of a metropolis – but not Paris; the autumn/winter 2015 collection is strongly influenced by New York City.

The new collection exerts a very urban vibe grasping the vivacity, the buzz and the diversity of New York City. Cool clean lines pay reference to the grid like structures of Manhattan and its buildings (Habitat launches even a collection of sideboards with a grid pattern), leafy patterns and green hues evoke the freshness of Central Park and playful colours and details take us to the stylish Village and other NYC areas. Leather, wood, metal, marble/stone and glass dominate the collection with a grown-up colour palette.

The ‘Metropolis Collection’ addresses the urbanites in all of us. The collection focuses on the design essence leaving the forms and lines to speak for themselves without any unnecessary embellishments. I enjoyed to speak to Habitat’s designer Pierre Favresse and thus not only get information but also see the passion that lies in every collection designed by him and his team.

My favorites were among others the very sleek tableware collection designed in collaboration with Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (I love that Habitat collaborates with renown designers), the new range of soft and textured home textiles as well as the small lamps with a marble/stone base and glass ball – ideal for a bedside table!

The new ‘Metropolis Collection’ will soon hit the stores so you better start making your choice and prepare yourself for some good design shopping to refresh your urban home for the upcoming autumn/winter collection.
