Our Favorite Games for Two People

When I talked about our at-home date nights recently, I mentioned that a huge part of date night for us is board games. Mr. Garland and I have loved to play games together for our entire relationship, but it’s only been in the last year and a half or so that we’ve gotten into games more interesting than the typical SkipBo or Life. Mr. Garland has a bit of an obsessive personality, so as soon as we started to get into board games, we quickly amassed a pretty huge collection. We play games every chance we get, and it’s such an awesome way to bond on a date night – and it keeps us both a lot more engaged than a movie would!

I’ve already shared our favorite games for family nights, and many of those make appearances on date night as well, but today I wanted to highlight some of our favorite board games to play just the two of us. It’s always hard to find games that are good for just two players, so when we do find them we latch on! I know we have a pretty good mix on here of experienced gamers and people who don’t know much about board gaming, so I tried to include a good mix of games for beginners as well as more complex games. Enjoy!

1. Dead of Winter
Level of experience: Advanced (though we’ve taught it to plenty of beginner players!)
Approximate play time: 1.5 hours
Why we love it: It’s complex, there’s a fun story, and it’s a different game every time you play. We love the complexity of it and never fail to have a blast playing. It definitely requires an experienced player to learn, but we have played this with many people who aren’t into gaming at all, and everyone we’ve played with loves it!
