{Dining Room} The Reveal

Monday, Monday...I'll admit, I'm a tad thrilled the work week is back...if only to take a break from all the work at home! But if you follow me on InstaGram or Facebook, you saw the serious progress at the 'new house' this weekend. Serious, as in, buh-bye shiny, orange stained cabinets! I'll have another Reno Update for you this week...but I can't thank you guys enough for your enthusiasm and genuine happiness for us. It feels like I have a cheering squad encouraging me with each big choice.

Last week I showed you the rugs we considered for the Dining Room, and asked what you'd choose. Usually when I ask you guys, it's to help me make a decision. This time, however, we already had the new rug in place, so it was fun to see what you liked...and what you thought we'd like. The overwhelming vote was #3...and I agree that the room needed navy in order to marry the drapes to the space better...but I can never resist a good stripe.

But it turns out, the striped one I showed you wasn't available in the larger size, so I went with a slightly different version....which I love even more! The rug was the final piece this room needed, and regardless of our impending move, I can now declare it complete! (Like I have a choice!)

The ship belonged to my grandfather...and even though we all agreed you can't hang on to things you don't love, just because you loved the person whose thing it was...I just can't part with this giant, goes-with-nothing-in-my-house, 5-foot-tall ship. It practically shouts, 'Hi, Sugarplum!' to me. (For the newer readers, you can read the back-story on my blog name here.)

There are a lot of serious pieces in this room, but little quirky touches keep it from feeling too serious. I think that's why I love the pink walls and red ceiling so much...such a juxtaposition to the traditional Dining Room. I painted the room almost two years ago, and I've yet to grow tired of the colors, or regret them.

I'm so grateful for the family pieces I've inherited, not only for the sentimentality, but because by layering them with newer items, it makes the room more dynamic, and gives it a sense of history. And just to set the record straight, for those of you who think I move at lightning speed...this room makeover started Summer of 2012! Greatness takes time, right?! ;)
