Bookworm

The last installment of the Bookworm reading list led to a pretty funny conversation with my mom, in which she made it clear that I am making her life very difficult by adding this many books to her never ending wish list on a regular basis, and demanded that I tell her the one can’t miss book from each list. Well, obviously, she has the inside track to such things, but I thought the rest of you might appreciate this simplified intel as well. Because, let’s be real, I am a very fast reader but my wish list dwarfs even my attempts at maxing out the credit card at Barnes & Noble.

So, if you are going to read one book on this list make it Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. This teaser says it all: “what if you could live again and again, until you got it right?”. Don’t we all wish we could do this? Quite the appealing concept. I already have a list of places and moments I’ll be revisiting the minute they invent a time machine. It will involve a great deal of listening to the advice of my six year old self, and a bit of smacking my eighteen year old self upside the head. The main character Ursula apparently has an infinite number of lives to spend learning and attempting to save the world, and I for one can’t wait to spend a little time living vicariously through her.

Once you’re done tagging along with Ursula, make your way through the rest of the list: Drinking With Men by Rosie Schaap, How To Be a Good Wife by Emma Chapman, Y:A Novel by Marjorie Celona, The Starboard Sea by Amber Dermont, and Navel Gazing by Anne Putnam.
