London's Burgers #1

I think I've realised what my blog's been missing, a series! It makes sense to dedicate an entire category to one of my favourite go-to meals in the capital, the sophisticated burger. Does anyone else remember the days when a Big Mac seemed pretty fancy? Not to worry, I'm used to organic meats, brioche buns and seasoned fries now. There's a burger out there for everyone and it's very rare that you emerge without feeling pretty full. I have a few favourites in London but I'm always up for trying somewhere new so I'm hoping to cover a real mix and give myself an excuse to try even more places. I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't throw myself wholeheartedly into this bit of research!

Yeah! Burger

Kings Cross isn't the usual place I tend to hang around in (I've had many a tantrum trying to figure out the right Tube exit), but with things like Kerb, Drink Shop Do and Dishoom nearby, it's actually a bit of a hidden gem. If Yeah! Burger was in Soho, then there'd probably be a queue halfway down the street but since it functions within the Star of Kings pub, then as long as there's space, then there'll be sustenance. There's a fun chilled out vibe and the branding seems a little bit like what Lazy Oaf would do if they branched out into food. I'm definitely a fan of the flavour mash-up and a little bit of mess, so going for the Lumberjack with its slightly sweet combination of bacon, stilton, onion jam and portobello mushroom was a great choice. It's not surprising that the founders honed their skills at Lucky Chip, as the 'Yeah Sauce' gave me a few flashbacks. The sides seem just as important as the mains with several options for fries (come here if you like cheese on everything) plus those all important chicken wings in varying degrees of hotness. One portion of fries is enough for two so don't make the same mistake I did and overdose on the richness of truffle and mushroom salt. Keep it on your list if you're dining with gluten free peeps as everything is clearly labelled on the menu.

Where should I visit next on my burger trail?

Yeah! Burger at The Star of Kings, 126 York Way
