Tea Talk: Baby Steps

In honor of my new tea cup (thanks Maie), here is tea talk.
In my email this morning was an incredibly eye-opening newsletter from En*theos Academy talking about the importance of praising the baby steps we take as we learn something new. The example used was the first time we ever asked for water, did we say, "Can you please pour me a glass of water, I'm thirsty?" No we did not. We said, "Wahha!" And we were praised over and over again. However, because our parents didn't want us ordering water with a "Wahha", over time we were taught how to order water. What was once praised now was altered until it became closer to the desired result. The same goes for learning how to walk. We didn't get up smoothly, put one foot after the other and then start running around. With cheer and praise we went from crawling, to standing up, to balancing, to tumbling, to putting one foot after the other until we finally could walk. Imagine if we use this same approach when we are learning something new. We would praise ourselves for the baby steps and not get caught up in how many steps still remain to walk. With praise and enthusiasm if we could learn how to walk as babies, we can also learn how to take baby steps as adults!
