Friday Fun!

Another exciting announcement, the story of me on a bike, and some fun Friday links! (It's all in here!)

If you've seen on instagram lately, husband has very awesomely bought me a bike (named MABEL) - for scooting around the town, going to the post office to ship orders, the printers etc etc.

Bearing in mind that I have not ridden a bike in... ooooh approximately 23 years. It has taken (and is still taking) a bit of getting used to. The Warr has been cycling (the odd 15km) into central London every day for the past year - he is pretty much an old hand at this whole "cycling" thing. Me, not so much.

On the night that we collected beautiful Mabel from the shop, husband had told me to meet him at the bus stop wearing running shoes. He had cycled home from work and met me at the bus stop - he then took me (as a surprise) to the bike shop to buy me a bike! (Thank you my goobi!) I was so excited and once Mabel was ready to go - we hopped onto our bikes to make our way back home - about 1.5km away from the bike shop.

We had strategically decided that I would "just follow" Warren. He would lead the way, guiding us through the RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, safely back home.

Perfect.

I was so BUSY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO RIDE A BIKE that I did completely forget to actually pay attention to ANYTHING on the road other than "just following" Warren.

Warren, the dear, led us through an ORANGE light.

An ORANGE one.

You guys. ORANGE lights are for "expert cyclists" who know how to accelerate, brake and generally have a good sense of what they are doing in RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.

WITH BUSES. (I forgot to add THAT THERE ARE GIANT BUSES. DOUBLE DECKER. GIANT BUSES.)

So anyway back to the rush hour traffic, AS INSTRUCTED - I "just followed" husband - right through the ORANGE LIGHT.

Difference being - husband, the expert cyclist sped through the ORANGE LIGHT, leaving granny-pedals-and-her-basket-bicycle in the MIDDLE of the intersection at the change of the lights. With the rush hour traffic and THE FIRED UP PEOPLE WHO NEED TO GET HOME. NOW.

And let me just tell you - the honking red car was ALSO surprised to see me in the middle of the 4 way intersection

You guys. I can't even.

I literally saw my life flash before me and all I could think to do was screech out (in my best and most highest pitched voice)
"WARRRRRRRRREN!!!!!!!!"

Followed by an inappopriate F word - held for several syllables.

I am sure that all the teenagers walking home from school (who had ALL turned round to look at me) thought I was very cool. In my helmet of course, - which is the BRIGHTEST BLUEST HELMET with white flowers and skulls that says,

(It doesn't make me look like a 12 year old at all.)

After my VERY CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH DEATH, I was shaking like a little bramble leaf and had to get off my poor Mabel to recover on the pavement. We then had to get BACK onto the bikes (glory) and get back home with the instruction - "watch out for the buses - they will get you"

WTAF!?!

You guys.
My face:

Cannot. Even.

I NEED A WIDE BERTH PEOPLE.

Good thing Mabel has a bell!! *ting! ting!*

I have since managed to have a few scoots on pretty Mabel, although the first time I went to the shops it took me ACTUALLY 15 minutes to figure out how to lock the bike to the bike lock thing, whilst trying to manoeuvre my bike, the bike stand, the bike rail, and the bike padlock. With a granny watching me. I nearly accidently locked my bike to a stranger's bike. Which would have been weird.

Anway I can go almost anywhere now - as long as it's straight and there is no turning involved.

The other night we met in the park (straight) on our bikes for a picnic and it was wonderful.

I have thought of a few more ways to decorate my beautiful bike to say "WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE" - will share them with you all soon!

Yesterday I was riding home on my bike and thinking about all these yoga events and being full-steam ahead and a had a rather deep and thoughtful musing (because I'm all "EARTHY" now - according to my mother), you can read about it here.
