On our most recent road trip, we decided to take highways down through the western part of the state rather than sit in traffic on I-95 (anyone who's regularly driven the stretch of I-95 between DC and Richmond already knows what I mean...it's always awful and can easily add two hours onto your trip if you happen to be on it at the wrong time). The route we took is slightly longer, but much more scenic and relaxed. Also, we were sure to pass by several cute small towns, which you know I love!
After driving for about 3 hours, we were ready to get out of the car and stretch our legs, so we stopped in Staunton, VA for a not-so-quick pit stop. We got coffee, walked around a bit, and even did a little shopping in a cute store. (I'll share what we bought in another post.) To be honest, I was pretty smitten with Staunton and didn't want to get back in the car!
