advent

Sometimes I get an idea in my head that I just can’t shake. That was this advent calendar. I had the idea to tie paper stars to a birch twig for each day and hang it on the wall. Nick sweetly snagged this birch twig for me on the side of the road. While the concept is simple, the project ended up being way more tedious than I’d imagined. Yet I couldn’t shake the idea and once I start something I tend to go crazy if I don’t finish it. :)

I love how it turned out, but it also made me realize that I needed to chill out about decorating for Christmas this year. This is our first Christmas in our own home, which means I can decorate not an apartment, but an entire home. Needless to say, I’ve been overwhelmed and spinning with ideas. Thankfully I came to the realization that’s not what it’s about. Now I’m trying my best to find joy in the season and simply celebrate the first Christmas in our bungalow. It’s not about all of the projects I can complete, but the meaning behind it all. Right?

How are you preparing to celebrate this year?
