Six Fresh Takes On Purple For Fall

Fall is the time for directional makeup. First of all, you can finally stop worrying about sweating it off the second it goes on. Second, September issues give you a lot to work with. For instance, last fall blue eyeshadow made a comeback in a big way (though, did it ever really leave?)—Tavi on the cover of New York Magazine heralding in the trend. It felt fresh—maybe because it was paired with couture or, more likely, the Martin Schoeller photography. It was the kind of blue that could translate into other things. Hair comes to mind.

So, what about purple makeup this season? And not necessarily lilac, but pigmented, almost-neon purple. Adapted onto the entire face (though not all at once), it's one of those colors that tells a story as it finds its way to your eyelids, lips, cheeks, even brows.

Up for the challenge was model Briley, from Tennessee, whose favorite color happens—oh the luck—to be purple. As a child, she recounted, she'd dye her very white pony very purple with berries. An adorable story—and probably a very patient horse. This color story is certainly less messy; each feature gets the chance to pop on its own while the rest of the face stays clean. It's a one-product look. Just don't call it simple. Choose from the following:
