Catalina State Park

Catalina State Park is one of the many state parks located in Tucson, with great trails to hike. This one is only a few minutes drive from home. Last Sunday, I had a day off from work and decided to take a quick trip to see what it was all about.

I was sort of annoyed that you have to pay to park, it was $7! but I suppose. What was great about this park, is that the road takes right to the trail head with parking located right next to it. Our goal was to make it to the Romero Pools, which was about a 2 mile hike through the valley into the mountains. When you first start onto the trail, there is a river to cross over. That day it was pretty low and easy to cross over. I wonder if it get’s any deeper. Anyway, we (boyfriend & I) didn’t want to get our shoes wet, so we jumped across smaller flows. What was also fun, one part of the river had a stick bridge to cross over. There was an elderly man before us and lent us his walking stick to cross over. I had an easier time crossing than the bf. Coming up the trail, it started to get rocky and harder to climb up. The sun was also setting so it seemed like we wouldn’t make it to our destination. We were able to reach another set of pools called “Montrose Pools” that’s where we took most of the photos. We also ran into 2 men by the pools that was carrying a bat. Of course, the bf asked why he was carrying it with him. The guy went on to tell us, just in case there were any mountain lions that came down. Apparently, that’s a normal thing to happen here in Tucson. Oh great! The sun was setting so we had to turn around before we got stuck there in the dark. Next time we will make it to Romero Pools.
