Year of reading

I haven’t done as well as I’d have liked in my reading. I have been studying like mad though and I hope that a course being almost complete will give me more reading time in the new year.

While I don’t want to feel pressured to meet reading goals I can’t seem to help but set them.

I would love to read more and not just school books. Aim 1.

I would like to read more from my own book shelves. Aim 2

Clearly I need a tbr challenge to get some of the books on my own shelves some attention.

I have a few book challenges I’d like to complete despite the fact that I keep not completing them. This year I came close to completing the literary reading challenge and think I will try the easy one again.

What I plan to do differently in 2015 is list ahead of time the books I want to read for challenges. This may change obviously but it couldn’t hurt to try something different.

I’d like to also complete a chunkster challenge as I have plenty of big fat books that need reading.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Helldiggers by Neil Asher

A ton of Clive Barkers books

And perhaps a book by Dan Simmons. Unsure which yet.

The books in translation challenge with the beginner 1-3 books being of interest to me. I’ve enjoyed some great translated fiction so I hope to continue with more in the new year.

At least one or two from the following list but it may change

The Piano Teacher by Elfiede Jelinek

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami

The Door by Magda Szabo

The Absent One by Jussi Adler-Olsen

Real World by Natsuo Kirino

The banned book challenge is also one I’d like to do as I have a couple that I own and would like to read.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

I also would love to promote and share about some great Australian authors so the chance to take part in the Australian Woman Writer challenge as well as the Aussie Author challenge Wallaby level would be great ones to be involved in.

As for last year I’ve read some great books and some of my faves of 2014 are

Lakebridge Autumn by Natasha Troop

The Explorer and The Echo by James Smythe

The Martian by Andy Weir

If you haven’t read then I highly recommend adding them to the 2015 tbr.
