Meet Molly R. Stern- beauty guru, artist, professional photo-bomber, and beyond fabulous makeup artist. She is responsible for creating Reese Witherspoon’s stunning awards season makeup, Julianna Margulies’ fresh face when she won the 2014 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress, and countless other looks we’ve been coveting (and trying to mimic!) over the years . We sat down with Molly to chat about her all-time beauty favorites, and tips for a flawless spring look.

What drew you to beauty, and how did you get started doing celebrity makeup?

I always loved makeup as a young girl. It was how I expressed myself and I used it to transform myself when I need a break for my day to day. Growing up in LA made it easy to gravitate towards the celebrity version of makeup artistry. I always say growing up in LA is like growing up in a coal mining town. You just sort of do what the land offers you.

What is one product you can’t live without year-round?

Blush! Specifically cream blush.

What is a fun trend to try this spring if you’re looking to mix up your beauty routine?

I love a wash of color on your eyes. One tone across the lid, no big deal. Push the boundaries! Try a bright yellow or a minty blue. Done simple it can look really modern.

Which beauty trend should you steer clear of?

Contour! When not used correctly it can really look like dirt.

What has been your favorite beauty experience so far this year?

All of awards season was pretty awesome this year. My longtime client and dear friend, Reese Witherspoon, was nominated for every award; getting to create new looks back-to-back-to-back with her and her team was challenging in the best sort of way and totally inspiring! I loved it!

What are 4 items you need to create a fresh, everyday look this spring?

Concealer, lip color, cream blush, mascara.
